Bishop Auckland play their second pre-season friendly tomorrow when they take on Darlington at Dean Street with at least one new signing in their side.

Bishops will include new signing Nicky Scaife in their squad. Scaife, who has been on the books of York City, was with Bedlington last season, and before that played under his father Bobby at Dunston.

Bishops' boss Brian Honour said; "Nicky will certainly strengthen our midfield."

Honour will probably give an outing to all of the squad who were involved in the 5-3 friendly win at Evenwood last week, plus a possible new defender who he was watching in the Northern League last season.

"The game will be a good test for us. I'm pleased we managed to play a game last week against Evenwood so then the lads could get the feel of the ball again." Bishops will also be wearing their new strip for the occasion.

Bishops have switched their friendly with Newcastle to Wednesday night, July 16, from the following Friday.

Spennymoor have transferred striker Tony Woodhouse to UniBond League neighbours Blyth Spartans.

Woodhouse, who was signed from Ashington, failed to hold down a regular place in the Moors starting line up last season.

And following him out of the door is another striker, Andrew Shaw, who has moved to Northern League club Durham City. Shaw was a crowd favourite at the Brewery Field helping them to promotion, and joins his former Spennymoor teammate Jason Ainsley at the Archibalds Stadium.

Meanwhile, manager Alex Mathie is to tour schools in the Spennymoor area in an effort to get more fans through the gates.

"We want to get the local schools involved," he said. "We want the club to be part of the community, and invite youngsters to matches. And if the youngsters come, then hopefully their parents will also."

Mathie told fans at the Brewery Field last week that he is aiming high to bring players to the club.

"I want to bring Football League players to the club, but not players who are going to come along for the ride. I want players here who genuinely want to play for the club."

Mathie has had over two dozen players at training sessions, but he has to whittle those down to 16 by the end of the month, ahead of the big kick off on August 16.
