Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League Division One: Wolviston maintained their position at the top of the table but they had a desparately close call against Guisborough.

The target of just 126 looked comfortable but the visitors hit back in the field and following an exciting finale, Wolviston had just one wicket to spare.

Simon Trillo and Steve Donlon almost pulled the game out of the fire when they shared seven wickets. Trillo's three cost only eight runs in a highly effective and economic seven overs while Donlon returned 4-36 from no fewer than 18 overs, six of which were maidens.

Geoff Ward's opening contribution of 35 was crucial to Wolviston, as was Ryan Murray's 34 for Guisborough, who were back in the pavilion with just 125 runs on the board accumulated from no fewer than 46 overs.

Wickets were shared by the five-man Wolvistion attack with Jimmy Jones the top wicket-taker, his three wickets costing him only 18 runs in ten overs.

Runs were less plentiful at Billingham Synthonia where Marske laboured through 43.5 overs making just 95 which included 30 from Neil Burrows, batting at number ten.

Keith Martin sent down 19.5 overs, bowling seven maidens for his 3-33 and Andy Jennings also claimed three wickets for just 11 runs in seven overs. It took Synners just 25.5 overs to claim victory as the runs flowed, in particular, from Dennis Wing.

His unbeaten 58 included no fewer than ten boundaries and his opening partner Gary Burgum also carried his bat for 26 in a ten-wicket victory.

Bedale made the highest score of the day, 183-9 but they were unable to secure victory in their home game with Normanby Hall. Carter (34) and Brian Leach with 23 formed a useful partnership for the third wicket and the Hall were comfortable on 125-7 following the completion of their 50 overs.

Mark Ellis bowled a good end in the Bedale attack conceding only 35 runs in 19 overs for five wickets.

Bedale's 50 overs saw them finish with 183-9 on top and most of the runs came from John Wilkin, whose 43 included six boundaries and Smith with a half century. It was Dennis Brown and Mohammed Shoaib who changed the course of the innings when they were introduced into the Hall attack.

Brown's 17 overs resulted in him returning the creditable figures of 4-67 and Shoaib picked up three wickets for an economical 14 runs in five overs.

Darlington overtook the Middlesbrough total of 147-8 with eight wickets and half their overs remaining. Keith Barker led the way, finding the boundary line on seven occasions making an unbeaten 54 and Max Ripley had no fewer than eight boundaries in 39.

When Boro made first use of the Acklam Park wicket, they were indebted to opener Ian Blewitt (36) as Matthew Morgans returned 5-45 in 23 overs and David Alderson 3-62 from the 19 overs he bowled.

Great Ayton were another side to bat second and win. They were required to make 163 runs at Marton which they did, losing just five of their wickets. John Doyle struck one six and eight fours making 76 and Glen Mudd also had a six and five boundaries contributing 45.

After the loss of early wickets, Paul Gaynon scored no fewer than eight fours out of 44 and Matthew Benfield added 35 to a mid-innings partnership which paved the way for Marton's total of 162-6. Four of the wickets went to Colin Murray for 40 runs in 13 overs, including five maidens.
