THE Endeavour's visit to Teesside is predicted to attract thousands of visitors and give a welcome boost to the area's economy.

The replica of Captain Cook's ship, HM Bark Endeavour, will be visiting Middlesbrough between October 17 and November 3 to celebrate the 275th anniversary of the great explorer's birthday.

It will sail up the River Tees and under the Transporter Bridge and back into dock at Middlehaven redevelopment area where it will be open to the public.

Organisers of the Endeavour's visit are predicting between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors to the area.

The ship's visit will also mark Middlesbrough's 150th birthday and 75 years since Stewart Park, Captain Cook's birthplace, was gifted to the people of the town.

"It is really is a unique occasion for the area to get so many anniversaries happening all at one time," said Phil Philo, curator of the Captain Cook Museum, Stewart Park, Middlesbrough.

"We won't get the same opportunity in the near future again so we really have to make the most of the Endeavour's visit to promote the area."
