THEY are more usually associated with Native Americans and stories of the Wild West, but a totem pole has sprouted in the heart of the North.
Almost 20ft high, the totem pole is standing in the centre of Rowntree Park, in York.
Designer Mike Oakenfull and craftsman Chris Wormald created the pole to mark the park's 82nd anniversary.
On Sunday, a party in the park took place, with music, a fair, and a model boat regatta.
