MOTHERS and their children enjoyed lunching alfresco at an annual picnic in a Darlington park to promote breastfeeding.
Members of the town's Breastfeeding Support Group took lunch to South Park for a meal in the sun.
"Often new mums feel isolated, so we arrange an annual day in the park," said Darlington Primary Care Trust health visitor Kath Lane.
"They often think 'I would love to go to the park but where will I feed the baby'? By having a picnic they can support each other."
About 1,300 babies are born each year in Darlington. Just over half the mothers will attempt breastfeeding, but after two weeks the figure drops to 44 per cent.
Health officials are trying to promote breastfeeding, and earlier this year organised a mass breastfeed in the Dolphin Centre.
