A school's governors are expected to write to a council after two coaches were moved on from an otherwise empty car park.

The governors at Richmond CE Primary School, in North Yorkshire, are expected to complain to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council about a lack of facilities in Saltburn.

There is no sign banning coaches from Catnab car park, which is at the foot of Saltburn Bank and close to the beach. But a traffic warden moved the coaches on, causing the five and six-year-olds distress, said headteacher Carol Jenkinson.

"From a safety point of view I think the governors will probably write to the council expressing their disappointment at the lack of facilities," she said.

"I think in some ways they are going to reduce the amount of people going there, because of the lack of parking. I am sure other schools will reconsider.''

A council spokesman said: "The warden arrived to find the coaches taking up eight spaces in the car park and went over and asked them to move.

"Coaches have never been allowed to park in that area, as much for their own good because it is such a tight car park, and if other cars park around them, they would never be able to get out.

"The best place for all coaches to park is by the bandstand at the top of the bank.

"We are very disappointed if the school feels this difficulty marred what we are sure would have been a very enjoyable day.

"There is not a sign saying no coaches to park here and that is something we will look at.''
