A MAN who was talked down by police after he threatened to jump off a bridge returned two days later.
However, the second time he refused to be talked down and threw himself off the bridge over the A64 near York.
The man survived the fall but suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he is still being treated.
His actions again caused traffic chaos as police were forced to close the road for about an hour as they tried to coax him down.
The first incident, late on Thursday afternoon, caused gridlock in the city as the road, a busy dual carriageway, had to be closed in both directions.
On that occasion, police succeeded in persuading him to get off the parapet of the footbridge after about two hours.
On Saturday, the man returned to the bridge, and police were alerted at about 5.45pm.
The incident coincided with heavy traffic caused by a meeting at the city's racecourse.
