Stories, rhymes and happy times is this year's theme for Southlands Leisure Centre's annual under-fives event taking place from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday.

This year, staff at the Middlesbrough centre have developed an event based around children's stories and nursery rhymes. The event is open to all children under the age of five as well as their families. Tickets cost £2.50 per child which includes a picnic. MINISTER'S VISIT: Science and Innovation Minister Lord Sainsbury will deliver the first annual School of Science and Technology Lecture, at the University of Teesside, in Middlesbrough, on Thursday.

PIGLETS ARRIVE: One of Newham Grange Leisure Farm's British saddleback pigs, Silverwings, gave birth to 13 piglets last week. Their father is Low Park Grand Duke, a pedigree British saddleback. The Coulby Newham farm is also home to a new jersey bull calf and a Highland calf who was born at the weekend.

SWEET OFFERINGS: All Saints Church, South View, Dormanstown, is holding its annual strawberry tea on Saturday, from 2pm to 4pm. There will be a raffle and cake stall. Admission is £1 which includes jelly and cream and a cup of tea.

RIDERS WARNED: Boy racers causing noise misery for residents at Guisborough have been warned their bikes and cars can be seized by police for causing a public nuisance and committing road traffic offences. One of the areas the nuisance drivers use regularly is the town's King George V playing field, which has received £12,000 from the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's Community Safety Initiative Fund for a perimeter fence.
