A TEENAGER will be travelling to Uruguay next month to compete in the roller hockey World Cup.

Michael Ableson, 16, plays in the England roller hockey under 20s team and, after competing in Uruguay, will be heading for the European championships in Portugal.

Michael, from Middlesbrough, was taught the sport in the town's Albert Park, and the Rainbow Leisure Centre, in Coulby Newham.

Michael's mother, Judy, is one of 800 people employed by HBS, Middlesbrough Council's private sector partner, responsible for council tax and housing benefit.

HBS has given the youngster £1,000 in sponsorship.

Tim Lonsdale, northern regional managing director with HBS, said: "Like us, Michael is going places and we are very pleased to be helping him achieve excellence."

Mrs Ableson said: "We are absolutely delighted with the support from HBS. Michael has worked really hard to make it into the international team, and he is really keen to fly the flag for Middlesbrough."
