PUB OWNER Andrew Power raised a glass of lemonade yesterday to toast his overcoming objections to the renewal of his public entertainment licence.
He feared his business would become unviable if he lost the right to stay open until 2am six times a week at his bar in Market Place, Barnard Castle. The renewal was agreed by Teesdale District Council's licensing committee after he said he had spent a lot of money improving the premises since taking over seven months ago.
Mr Power said that the pub, known as Folly's for five years, would revert to its original name, the Raby Arms.
Two neighbours, Bob Griffiths and Stan Chatt, objected to the renewal, because of late-night noise.
But John Pearson, a council environmental health inspector, said he had visited several times and found the noise too loud only once. It was turned off as soon as he pointed it out.
