A GLOWING report has been given by an Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) inspector to a team which teaches 14 toddlers in an early learning scheme at a village school.

It says the quality of teaching by the four staff is very good in the pre-school class at Bowes School, near Barnard Castle. The leader is Helen Needham.

Catherine Ryan, secretary of the committee which runs it, said yesterday: "We are extremely pleased with the excellent report. It highlights the high quality of provision."

Inspector Ann Tomlinson said: "Staff manage children's behaviour very well and have established good relationships. Children's early reading skills are very good."
