VISITORS to the Mayoress of Durham's "at home" event will be serenaded by a Hungarian wind band. The public are invited to meet Mayor Councillor Ray Gibbon and the Mayoress, his wife Margaret, today at the town hall, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Tiszafured, a 46-member Hungarian youth band, will perform in the Market Place. Later the band will feature in two concerts in Elvet Methodist Church, Old Elvet, at 2.15pm and 7pm. Tickets are available at the door.

JOBS FAIR: A jobs fair was held at the Glebe Centre, in Murton, yesterday to advertise 50 vacancies at the Next store opening at the Dalton Park shopping complex next month.

DATA SCAM: Police are warning businesses in Derwentside to beware of a Liverpool-based organisation called the Data Protection Agency Service, which is sending out letters to companies asking for a £95 signing-on fee to register under the Data Protection Act.

WALL WALK: Chester-le-Street ramblers are holding a walk at Steel Rigg, Hadrian's Wall, on Sunday, led by Ian Drummond. They will meet in the car park at Chester-le-Street Civic Centre, at 9.30am. For details call 0191-410 6892.
