THREE generations of runners are keeping it in the family by taking part in Darlington's 10k Road Run.

Tony Evans. 34, his father-in-law David Metcalfe, 52 and eldest son Thomas, eight, were among the first to send in their entries for the charity run on Sunday, August 10.

Mr Evans' wife, Lisa, 31, said: "My husband and dad are keen runners and took part in the Great North Run and the 10k last year. They mainly do it to keep fit and for charity.

"They decided to get our eldest son involved this year, and he will be running the one-mile fun run on his own while his dad and grandad do the full 10km."

The road run has helped raise more than £40,000 for charity since it started in the mid 1980s.

Darlington Borough Council, which is organising the event, hopes to raise £3,000 for its chosen beneficiary charity, the Rainbow Trust, which helps children with life-threatening illnesses.

Runners must be aged over 15 to take part in the 10km race. Entry costs £7 for athletic club members and £8 for non-members. The fun run costs £2 for adults and £1 for children, and the junior race costs £3 to enter.
