Mayor heads ticket queue

THE first ticket for Richmond's restored Georgian Theatre Royal was bought by the town mayor. Councillor Stuart Parsons was at the head of the queue when seats for an August preview season went on sale. The theatre reopens on August 3 with Norfolk group Songbyrd. AUCTION SUCCESS: A garden evening and auction at Porch House, Northallerton, raised £2,013 last week. The event was organised by the friends of All Saints' Parish Church, Northallerton, in aid of church funds. The Mayor of Northallerton, Councillor Tony Hall, and district councillor John Prest attended.

PARTY on: The annual Party in the Park at Harrogate's Valley Gardens was attended by a record crowd of more than 12,000 people. The event was organised by Harrogate Borough Council's leisure services department and Harrogate Lions.

BUS TOUR: Information on coping with Alzheimers disease will be available from members of a Richmondshire support group, touring the area by bus over the next few days. The Alzheimers Information Bus calls in Richmond today, Hawes tomorrow and Leyburn on Friday.

IDENTITY CHANGE: The name of the child care facilities offered by the YMCA in Richmond has changed to reflect a wider range of services. What was the YMCA Creche is now known as the YMCA Nursery, offering two to five-year-olds a full curriculum of foundation stage learning with qualified staff.

JUDGEMENT DAY: Judges will today examine the entries in this year's Richmond garden competition. Prizes are at stake for the winners of three categories. Many of the gardens will be open for charity this weekend.
