A SCHOOL for children with severe learning difficulties held a mini-Olympics yesterday.

Rosebank School, in Ferryhill, has developed links with Sedgefield Community College, which has specialist sports status.

As part of the relationship, Rosebank's Judith Benson and Ian Noble, from Sedgefield, developed the sports event.

The pupils, aged from four to 19, competed in a series of events, including wall building, bean bag throwing, an obstacle course, a dressing-up game, relay races and a penalty shoot-out.

The event was such a success that the school has decided to make it an annual event.

Mrs Benson, Rosebank's PE co-ordinator, said: "It has all gone really well and the weather has been brilliant. We had lots of parents here and everyone has had a really good time.

"It is the first time we have done this, but we will definitely do it again."
