A TEENAGER from Darlington has invented a sandwich which is proving a commercial success.
Jack Booth, 14, came up with the idea of a marguerita pizza toasted sandwich while experimenting with tomato puree and cheese one afternoon.
Jack is the son of Stewart Booth, who runs the North-East franchise of Hotbite.
The company operates innovative toasted sandwich machines in businesses and public areas across the region.
The Hotbite franchise concept revolves around toasted sandwich vending machines, which cook and serve hot, freshly toasted sandwiches automatically.
The machines use a contact grill, rather than a microwave, to cook the sandwiches in 90 seconds.
Mr Booth said: "Jack's sandwich is now firmly established as one of our best sellers.
"When I tell everyone it was a concept dreamt up by my son playing around in the kitchen they think it is great. I am just waiting for his next genius idea now."
