PATIENTS can rekindle their memories of the reign of King Coal when they visit the doctor.
Bowburn Surgery, which was opened last September by Sunderland's ace striker Kevin Phillips, has been given a picture of a mining scene by a grateful patient.
The woman, who wants to stay anonymous, saw the picture of a miner working underground and decided to donate it.
The surgery, off Durham Road in Bowburn, is above one of the village pit's former seams.
The picture was painted by Bill Hindmarsh, of Belmont, a former pitman, who turned his hobby into a business when he finished working for Philips Components three years ago.
Practice manager Wendy Graham said: "It is a very appropriate picture as Bowburn is a former mining community.
"It is a lovely picture and the artist is very good. It is ideal for the surgery.
"We have a picture of Durham cathedral that was also donated by a patient.''
