AN efficiency drive takes to the roads in the Yorkshire Dales next week to increase awareness of sustainable energy sources.

Staff from the North Yorkshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre will be on board an Energy Bus, visiting market towns with information and displays on the modern technology available, including solar and wind power.

Programme assistant, Ruth Collins, said: "Currently, just three per cent of the UK's energy requirements are met by renewable energy while the Government has set a target for ten per cent of all the UK's energy needs to be met from renewable sources by 2010.

"We realise the landscape and environment of the Yorkshire Dales needs special consideration when choosing to install the technology required for harnessing renewable energy.

"The Energy Bus provides practical help and advice on how residents can introduce the use of renewable or green energy into their homes working within the current planning guidelines in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.''

The Energy Roadshow will be in Hawes, on Tuesday, Leyburn, next Friday, and at Reeth, on Wednesday, August 27
