Youngsters can gain first-hand knowledge on conservation at Guisborough Forest and Walkway, and help with the countryside site's management on Tuesdays between 10am and 3pm during the school holidays.

Work involves cutting down invasive species growing along the old railway line. Equipment and a drink will be provided but participants are asked to bring a packed lunch. ROAD SAFETY: Puzzled pedestrians have made so many calls to a council about crossings that it is giving kerb-side lessons. Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is using its road safety mascot, Spike the Hedgehog, to help explain the difference between pelican and puffin crossings to the public this week. Spike and the council's road safety officer, Mike Hall, will be at the new pelican crossing next to Morrisons, in Lord Street, tomorrow, between midday and 2.30pm, to answer the public's questions.

CLOCK FUNDs: Friends of Redcar Town Clock will be running a local history stall on Monday, August 4, until Saturday, August 8 from 10am onwards at the Morrison's store in Redcar. Books will be on sale. Proceeds will go towards renovating Redcar Town Clock.

DIABETES TALK: Diabetes sufferers or people who want to know more about the condition can have their questions answered by Dr Steven Jones on Tuesday, August 5 at 7pm at James Cook University Hospital.
