Margery Nelson and Vera Chapman, from Barnard Castle, have reached the national final of the Townswomen's Guilds' flat green bowling contest.

The pair, who are members of the Darlington and District Federation of Townswomen's Guilds, will compete in Worthing in September.

EXAM RESULTS: The following people have been successful in Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations: Singing - Kelly McWaters, grade two (merit) and Elizabeth Edmonds, grade five (merit); piano - Karen Thurlbeck, grade one (distinction). They are all pupils of Terence Lawson, of School Aycliffe, near Darlington.

AQUARIUM TRIP: The Friends of Senior Citizens charity has organised a trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium, in Tynemouth, on Monday, August 25.
