NEALE Cooper will today hold talks with Andrew Jordan in a bid to strengthen his back line.

The former Bristol City and Cardiff defender has spent pre-season with York and has been offered a one-year deal after impressing rookie boss Chris Brass.

But Cooper has moved in to try and capture the son of former Scotland and Manchester United powerhouse Joe Jordan.

Cooper is seeking a left-back - Mark Robinson is out of favour and one of only four players not to travel to Scotland for last night's 3-2 friendly win at Berwick - and powerful left-footer Jordan fits the bill.

He was in the news last week when he clashed with Leeds' striker Mark Viduka in a pre-season friendly at Bootham Crescent.

Viduka lunged in on Jordan in the early stages and the defender needed treatment.

Referee Alan Kaye told Leeds boss Peter Reid to substitute his striker - but yesterday Kaye was charged by the FA for failing to apply the laws of the game.

An FA spokesman said: ''Mr Kaye has been charged by the FA for less than proficiently applying the laws of the game. Special instructions were issued to officials about certain incidents and obviously the refereeing department of the FA feel these have not been followed.''

Jordan, 22, moved to Cardiff in 2000 after spending three years at Bristol City, but has made only a handful of appearances at Ninian Park.

Cooper gave a brief outing last night to ex-Derby winger Matt O'Halloran, but as his side found themselves two goals behind the trialist was replaced when Cooper sacrificed his wingers.

The first goal, on 14 minutes, came after a mix-up between keeper Anthony Williams and centre back Micky Nelson and the Pool keeper was beaten again three minutes later by a low shot.

Cooper then changed to 4-3-3 and Marco Gabbiadini missed a chance to pull a goal back when he fired straight at the on-rushing keeper.

But Paul Robinson's third goal in as many trial games - this time from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the area - brought Pool back into the game at the start of the second-half.

Eifion Williams levelled the scoreline on 70 minutes after the Berwick keeper parried a shot and Darrell Clarke netted the winner with ten minutes to go, netting after latching onto a through ball from Ritchie Humphreys.

Cooper hinted last week that former Newcastle and Darlington Robinson would be given a contract.

Former West Brom striker Bob Taylor has revealed there has been interest from Pool - but a move is unlikely to happen following his release from the Hawthorns.

Horden-born Taylor said: "I've spoken to somebody from Hartlepool, which would be ideal for me because it's going home to the North East where I'm from, but we're settled in the Midlands.''

Pool tonight go to Billingham Town (6.45)
