A LIFELINE has been thrown to a remote North-East community.
A grant for £80,000 from the Community Fund, which shares out money from the National Lottery, means that villagers in Boosbeck, east Cleveland will be able to renovate their village hall.
All 1,100 residents were canvassed on their needs and preferences for the work.
As a result of the doorstep survey, a range of educational, social and health improving activities will take place in the new centre for able and disabled people.
Kathleen Jackson, representing the community centre, said: "Without this money we would not be able to start our project.
"By getting the grant we will be able to make our community centre accessible to everyone in the village. Without it, the building would eventually have been closed, leaving us without a village hall."
