WORK to resurface one of the region's busiest trunk roads starts on Monday.

The work will be carried out on the A19 between Norton and the Parkway, Teesside, in as many as nine phases, some of which may only take a day or two to complete.

In total, the work is expected to take up to two weeks.

The main impact on motorists will be at the various interchanges along the road, either side of the Tees Viaduct, which may be completely closed or have restrictions applied to slip roads during the work.

Keith Polson, general manager for Autolink, said: "The work is needed to extend the life expectancy of the road by 15 or so years.

"We have programmed the work to ensure any delays are kept to an absolute minimum and all of the work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

"It is difficult to give exact details of the phases of the work because they will change very quickly over the two weeks.

"We will try to put out daily bulletins to the local radio stations to give people up-to-the- minute information as the work progresses.

"When interchanges or slip roads are closed, clearly signed diversion routes will be in operation. Also, because of the flexible nature of the work, we would ask all road users to approach this section of the A19 with extra caution during the period of the works and be ready to obey the signs as they are put up each day."
