Darlington manager Mick Tait has secured his second signing of the summer with the capture of former Blyth striker Glen Robson.

The 25-year-old has signed a one-year deal with Quakers after impressing on trial, scoring three goals in two appearances.

And Tait, who last week landed goalkeeper Michael Price, believes Robson will make a welcome addition to his squad with the start of the season just one week away.

"He gives us a different option and I'm sure Third Division defences will find him a real handful," said Tait. "He has plenty of pace and gives us a different option to what we've got at the moment.

"Glen knows how to get in behind defenders and scores plenty of goals as we've already seen."

However, Tait's hopes of including Robson in today's friendly at Barrow remain in doubt after the forward woke up with a stiff neck yesterday morning.

"We'll just have to see how he feels when he wakes up in the morning, but it's just one of those things," said Tait.

The Quakers boss is expected to hand a start to Turkish-born former Ipswich defender Erdem Artun, who is the latest player to join the club on trial.

The 20-year-old, who is a free agent after he was released by Town in November, has also attracted interest from Third Division rivals Oxford, having already spent a brief spell on loan with Doncaster last season.

French trialist Fabian Bossy will earn a second outing this afternoon after impressing in the midweek win at Dunston, while duo Neil Wainwright and Gary Pearson miss out with strains.

With next week's Third Division curtain raiser at Hull City in mind, Tait had hoped to field his strongest line-up at Tolker Street.

"I can't use it as a match for the eleven I want to use next week now, which is what I was going to do," said Tait.

Goalkeeper Andy Collett is expected to return to first-team action next week after recovering from a shoulder injury.

The former Middlesbrough keeper has not figured in any of Quakers' pre-season games, but is making good progress and should line up at the KC Stadium in seven days' time.
