A pensioner remained in hospital last night following a road accident.
The accident happened shortly after 7.30pm on Saturday, in Hillhead Road, on the Chapel House estate, Newcastle, 300 metres from The Peregrine pub.
Police said a Ford Fiesta was travelling north on Hillhead Road when the 73-year-old stepped into its path.
The man, from West Denton, suffered a fractured pelvis and cuts to the head. He was taken to Newcastle General Hospital.
The road was closed for 40 minutes.
