PLANS are being unveiled to create a nursing home in an empty building which residents said has become an eyesore area.

Hadrion Healthcare has applied to Stockton Borough Council for planning permission to build a residential care home at Belasis House, Marsh House Avenue, Billingham.

It also wants to build ten semi-detached bungalows with car parking on the site.

The building was used as a nursing home until last year, but has since stood empty.

Residents said it has become a magnet for vandals and is an eyesore.

A householder, who lives nearby, said: "Quite often on a night I cut through there to get home and there are gangs of youths hanging around.

"The place is used as a litter bin and it is just a mess."

Councillor Colin Leckonby, ward councillor for the area, said: "We are delighted these plans have been submitted. All the residents are pleased because the area has become an eyesore.

"It will give them peace of mind as the area is used by vandals and others who cause problems.

"It will bring alive that area and will, hopefully, provide the same community atmosphere it once had. It really is good news.
