The Brinkburn pub on Lady Katherine Grove, Darlington, is giving customers a last chance to register for a new amateur darts competition, which is due to get underway next month.

Part of the community pub chain John Barras, which is committed to traditional pub games The Brinkburn is one of 75 pubs throughout England and Scotland involved in the

'John Smith's Darts Championship' to find the best amateur player!

With £3,500 prize money up for grabs and a chance to appear on SKY Sports, more than 450 darts enthusiasts have already signed up for the singles event. But the closing date is looming (deadline August 10).

"This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who loves the game," said Jim Davies, manager of The Brinkburn.

"We've already got a number of budding Phil 'The Power' Taylors signed up for the event but I'm keen for anyone who can throw a dart to take part just for the fun of being involved in this unique competition."

Co-ordinated by leading international darts association World of Darts the competition is open to men and women of all ages and abilities. Registration is free and entry forms can be picked up at the bar. The closing date for applications is 10 August 2003.

The John Smith's Darts Championship team event is already underway with the final scheduled for August 24. Comprising six players per team they are competing for a share of £7,680 prize.

John Barras is committed to traditional pub games and has staged national darts competitions for the past three years attracting more than 6,000 competitors.
