CALL centre group CJ Garland has had the latest information technology (IT) infrastructure installed at its Middlesbrough site.

The Hartlepool service provider has new computers and other IT equipment put in place for 600 staff, with the capability of growing to 1,000 as employment at the centre expands.

The installation was carried out by Newcastle company Croft plc.

The Middlesbrough centre provides phone support for Freeserve and Virgin Mobile.

Garland's Call Centres was named Best Large UK Contact Centre at the 2002 National Customer Service Awards.

It was also named 21st fastest growing UK business in The Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 league table for last year.

It is the second largest private employer in the Tees Valley.

Steve Bowen, IT services manager at Garland's said: "Garland's is known throughout the customer service industry for the way it invests in its people and that extends to equipping them with the best tools to do the job."
