SUCCESS at the national championships helped a Durham school's rowing squad ensure it became the most prolific medal-winning junior team of the year.

At the event in Scotland, the boat club of St Leonard's School, coached by Peter Graham, won medals in every category of racing across all age junior groups.

Gold medals were won in the men's junior 14 coxed quad; the women's junior 14 coxed quad and the women's junior 18 doubles.

The squad also claimed silver medals in the men's junior 15 doubles and the men's junior 16 doubles.

The men's junior 14 coxed quad of David Forster, Philip Moralee, Daniel Harris and Jim Moore - coxed by Alexandra Gaffney - won their gold medal by over ten seconds.

Success at the national championships was the final chapter in an incredible year.

for the Durham school.

The squad had already won the men's and women's junior 14 coxed quads and won gold medals at the School's Head of the River Championships on the River Thames in London.

At the National Schools Championships in Nottingham, the men's junior 14 coxed quad won a bronze medal and the women's junior 14 coxed quad won gold in the junior 15 category, racing against some competitors two years their senior.
