A SUMMER concert is being held this month to raise money for a teenager preparing to work in one of the world's poorest and most underdeveloped countries.
Songs for a Summer Evening - a concert of easy listening music - is being staged to help pay for Joanna Pospieszalski's trip to Malawi, Africa.
The student, of Thirsk School, North Yorkshire, will be teaching at a secondary school in the south of the country, where Aids is having a devastating effect.
Boosting funds for Joanna's trip are Claire Strafford, a soprano from Kilburn, Martin Bastian, a tenor from Germany and their accompanist, Beryl Beech. The concert will take place in St Oswald's Church, Sowerby, on Saturday, August 23, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £5 adults, £2 children, and are available from White Rose Books, Hambleton Books, Sowerby Post Office, or at the door.
