It was lucky 13 for Woodham Ladies Open with the heatwave conditions delighting 42 teams of four taking part in the day long event.

The day was in stark contrast to last year's tournament when play had to be suspended for a time due to severe thunder storms.

Winners of the competition were Janice Blakey Tracey Hahn members of Woodham playing with L Secker M Rodgers of Fulford GC. 96 points. Second were C Elborn L Robinson D Howe S Townsend (City of Newcastle GC) 93 points;3 K Mott E Nelson L Mullen T Bowles (Woodham)92 points; 4 L Milner K Winlow A Slater B Blenkinsop (Chester Le Street)91 points.

Prizes were presented by Woodham Ladies Captain Kay Mott who said how delighted she had been at the high entry, good weather and excellent performances.

Maxwells Open Day

Oagain this locally sponsored open day was blessed by fine weather and a full field to compete for the many prizes on offer.

Harrogate and District Union Inter-Club League

Two further rounds of this year's competition have now been played.

Bedale v Otley: An away fixture with wins in the singles for Kevin Ward and John Webster. In the fourballs wins were achieved by Ian Smith and Andrew Gatenby also Martin Fuller and Ian Ratcliffe. The points were shared equally between the teams with eight points each.

Bedale v Ilkley: A strong performance in this home fixture with wins in the singles for Andrew Gatenby and halves by Julian Beer and Ian Smith resulting in the points being shared. This was followed by a clean sweep in the fourballs with wins by David Blades and Tony Joinson. Tim Waters and Neil Brown, Ian Morris and Bill Barclay and finally Ian Ratcliffe and Paul Kirbitson giving an overall match result of 12 points to four for the home team.

Seniors - Medal

A warm day for the elderly golfers with the following leading scores: 72 David Hoult (17); 73 Noel Winstanley (12); 75 Alan Wilkins (16). Best gross 89 Stan Suggitt.

Juniors - Daily Telegraph competition

The lowest gross was returned by James Patterson with a 76 but his nett score of 57 against a standard scratch of 71 could only give him second position, although his handicap was reduced to eight.

Leading scores: 63 Henry Taylor (34); 67 James Patterson (9); 68 Sam Johnson (11); 70 Craig Johnston (18); Henry Taylor's handicap has now been reduced to 28.

August Medal

James Patterson again returned the best gross with a 78 but this time with his new handicap he could only manage fourth position in this nett competition. The winner, Declan Barclay, reduced his handicap from 29 to 25.
