A YOUNG tae kwondo star landed a second award on the same day that his father received his first.
Bradley Smith gained a second dan black belt in Doncaster last week, impressing five of the country's leading tae kwondo experts with his skills.
Ten-year-old Bradley, from Kirk Merrington, near Spennymoor, achieved the honour five years after winning his first black belt which is the minimum training time required to reach that level.
His father John, took up the martial art after his son, and daughter, Yasmin, 16, both showed natural talent when they started training with Master Bryan Whiley.
He said: "It is a real achievement for Brad. I was just pleased to share it with him.
"It is quite a daunting experience lining up against people with 30 years experience and performing in front of the best, but he did really well.
"Brad is also doing well training with Spennymoor Boxing Academy, and Yasmin is very good at tae kwondo, too. Their mum, Karen, and I are very proud."
