East Rainton still lead the table as they attempt to retain the championship.

They are the only unbeaten side in the league and recorded their 14th win in 18 outings visiting Simonside who were all out for 139 including 42 not out by Thompson and 23 from Stephen Defty. Gary Humphries claimed three wickets for 18 runs, Ian Kitching three for 38, John Roberts two for 15 and Ludlow two for 35 before East Rainton won without conceding a wicket. Colin Henderson was their match winner with the bat as he crashed an unbeaten 105 which together with 30 by Gordon Steel propelled East Rainton to a match winning 143 for one.

Newton Aycliffe are second just 13 points behind East Rainton with four games to play. Aycliffe realised 283 for six but Wearmouth replied with 230, still leaving Aycliffe winners by a margin of 53 runs.

Davison opened for Aycliffe scoring 34, Bell added 86, J Williams 45, Wheeler 49 and G Williams 43 not out.

Wearmouth took up the formidable challenge and despite losing three early wickets were in with a chance as Matthew Dench added 42. Dhillon then contributed 59 before the innings closed with 230 on the board. Davison captured three for 40, J Williams three for 39 and Stuart Mitchie two for 38 as Newton Aycliffe neutralised seven bowlers in their attack.

Washington won at Medomsley by four wickets after restricting the home team to 143 all out. Following a poor start when both openers were dismissed without scoring, Medomsley partially recovered through Dixon who made 58 and Charlton with an unbeaten 27. Bowes claimed three for 38, Plender two for 16, Garrod two for 38 and Wilkie two for 41 for Washington who also made an indifferent start when they replied.

They were rescued by a third wicket stand through Colledge (35) and Bewick with 34 not out and assisted by no fewer than 44 extras victory was achieved with four wickets remaining. Three of the six wickets to fall were taken by Green at a cost of 22 runs and M Dixon returned two for 28.

Plawsworth are finishing the season strongly and they had 158 runs to spare visiting Coxhoe. John Surtees was just five runs short of a century when he was dismissed lbw and his 95 together with 84 from John Alderson propelled Plawsworth to 277 for six. Best bowling figures for Coxhoe were claimed by Bloomfield who ended with two for 19.

In reply Coxhoe were all out for 119 which included 30 by strange and in the Plawsworth attack John Gott had three for 27 and Kevin Jones three for 23.

Timms batted throughout for Coundon ending undefeated on 105 in a total of 261 for two. Thompson made 43 and Tait an unbeaten 82 before Hospitals replied with 175 for seven including 60 by R Shaw. Hardy, with two for ten, was the most successful bowler on view, but Murray also captured a couple of wickets for Coundon at a cost of 20 runs.

Hunwick had 58 runs in hand of Littletown. When they made first use of the wicket the home side ended on 165 all out which included 56 by Alderson and 29 from his opening partner Breen. Little added 21 and for Littletown, Sultman had four for 38, John Ricketts three for 37 and Colin Vallence two for 37.

When they went into bat Littletown made an uncertain start to their reply, but 22 from Nelson eventually took the total into three figures even though Alderson returned three for 39 for Hunwick.

Belmont are still in front of division two despite losing by 55 runs to Washington. Fallon top scored with 65, McElvanney added 21 and Guy 24 to the Washington total of 164 all out as Pat Welsh took four wickets for 29 runs, Noble two for 24 and Choudrie three for 29.

When Belmont went into bat they partially recovered after losing two early wickets through Ian Steel who made 50 before being caught, but only Welsh with 23 managed double figures as the innings stuttered to 109 all out. Bowes captured four of the wickets for 29 runs, Adrian Wood took two for 11 and Fallon two for 25.

Kelloe are also in contention for both the championship and promotion after beating Tantobie by 23 runs. Faced with a target of 133 Tantobie were all out for 109 which included 45 by Robson and 22 by Bellamy.

McDonald claimed three wickets for 20 runs, Hughes three for 30 Turnbull two for 23 for Kelloe who batting first realised 132 all out. Thirlwell was their top scorer with 48 and there were also useful contributions of 24 from Pratt and 20 by Turnbull. Brown was the most successful bowler for Tantobie returning three for 34 while Fairlish had two for 21 and Craig two for 34.

East Rainton managed 157 before dismissing North Bitchburn for 72. By far the biggest contribution to the East Rainton total was extras on 45 and in the visiting attack Tennick had four for 34 and Morgan four for 42.

Replying North Bitchburn were all out for 72 which included 25 by Snaith and for East Rainton Reay captured three wickets for 39 runs, Defty three for 21 and Hall three for six.

After realising the healthy total of 239 for seven Burnhope dismissed Littletown for 105. Coverley opened for Burnhope making 88 and Johnson at number three added 44. Bates contributed a useful 29 and Morrison 21 while for Littletown Cavanagh took four for 50 and Barrass two for 73.

Replying Littletown never got to grips with their huge task but Stevens opened with 38 enabling three figures to be reached. Gray claimed three wickets for 23 runs, Spark three for 43 and Morrison two for six.

Benwell Hill were also in scoring mode at home to Kibblesworth ending with 209 for four on the board from 45 overs. Gustard contributed 59 and Robertson 32, but the biggest score came from Chambers who was only three runs short of a century when he was caught.

When they went into bat Kibblesworth managed only 145 which included 76 by Eltrington. David McKay took four wickets for 23 runs.

Wearmouth totalled 109 all out going down by six wickets to Bearpark. Ghafoor (27) and Walton (20) top performed with the bat and for Bearpark Lishman had three for 17 and Patton three for 38. Summers gave support with two wickets for six runs.

When they replied Bearpark conceded an early wicket, but Marshall was in good form making 48 and Parker added 21 to help his side to a six wickets victory.
