A 43-YEAR-OLD man was sent for trial when he appeared before a court yesterday to face 16 charges involving child pornography.

Oliver Daniel, of Cheltenham Mount, Harrogate, was accused of 15 offences of making an indecent photograph of a child and one of possession of indecent photographs of children when he faced the town's magistrates. The alleged offences were said to have occurred between March 1998 and November last year. Mr Daniel, who did not enter any pleas, was bailed to appear at Leeds Crown Court on September 30.

PLAN BACKED: A new terrace of six houses to replace a modern detached property has been given unanimous backing by councillors. They voted for the scheme, by Yorkgate Properties, at North Lynn, North Road, Ripon, at an area planning committee of Harrogate Borough Council.

HOME OK: An agricultural worker's home is to be built on land near High Sutton Farm, Masham. Members of the Ripon area planning committee of Harrogate Borough Council gave their backing to the scheme. The three-bedroomed house, with an adjoining double garage, will be built of stone with a pantile roof.

BOOK FUN: A children's book day will take place all day tomorrow at White Rose Books, Thirsk. Activities will include colouring competitions, quizzes, and stories for different age groups. There will be a prize for the best children's fancy dress entry as their favourite book character.

JAZZ BANDS: The grounds of Castle Howard, near Malton, will host two jazz bands on Sunday afternoon. Performances start at 1pm and are included in the entrance price
