A CHARITY has furnished the visitors' suite at Sir William Turner's Almshouses, at Kirkleatham, with £750 worth of electrical goods.

The North-East Ladies Luncheon Charity presented the items, along with £750 worth of garden furniture, to Philip Moxham, vice-chairman of the trustees.

Mr Moxham said: "As a small charity, we find ourselves overshadowed by the hospices and other major charities in the area. This sort of practical support is a huge benefit for our residents."

The visitors' suite is a small bedsit room.

Resident warden Shiela Simpson said: "This is a real boon. Visitors can prepare their own breakfast or a light meal without disturbing their relatives in the almshouses."

The charity raised £4,500, which was shared between three charities.
