A NEWTON Aycliffe doctor who won a cash prize at a learning event is to split his winnings between two charities.

Dr Rob McKinty, from the Bewick Crescent practice, won the £100 raffle at a Time Out and Time In protected learning event, held every three months by Sedgefield Primary Care Trust.

The events at the Samsung factory, in Billingham, provide practice staff and trust staff with afternoon workshops on specific themes. The event attended by Dr McKinty was about computers and information technology.

Time Out and Time In events are partly funded by pharmaceutical representatives, who pay to have a stand.

Attendees are free to visit stands if they wish, but because general practice staff visits have been low, the raffle was introduced as an incentive.

General practitioners were given a card at the event which was marked every time they visited a stand.

Anyone with a completed card was eligible to enter the raffle.

Dr McKinty asked for the £100 to be split equally between the Butterwick Hospice and the Community Nurse Equipment Fund.
