A Darlington record label has set up a television programme to showcase local and national bands.

Virtual Venue, which began on August 20 and will run for 12 weeks, offers opportunities for young musicians, as well as technical training in other areas of the music industry.

The show's two pilot programmes in May and June led to Government sponsorship in the form of the New Deal for Musicians.

The scheme is part of a nationwide network to support musical talent. Circulation Recordings is delivering the programme in Durham, Teesside and Sunderland. The label has also sponsored local events, including an all-day rock concert at the Gala theatre in Durham and the Stockton Riverside Festival Fringe, as well as developing a music venue at Lingfield Point, Darlington.

Anyone interested in getting involved in Virtual Venue, which is on Sky Channel 687 on Wednesdays, at 9pm, can find out more at www.communigate.co.uk/ne/circulation.
