A CHARITY dedicated to helping vulnerable young people is seeking volunteers to help with its work.
Hambleton and Richmondshire Nightstop is looking for hosts and drivers to provide accommodation and transport for 16 to 25-year-olds with nowhere to stay.
The scheme is being set up with funding from Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils, using a model that works in more than 40 places in the UK.
Volunteers offer their services for one night at a time, providing bed, breakfast and an evening meal. In return, they receive training and support, and are paid expenses.
Project director Carol Robinson said: "Nightstop is about making sure young people are safe - giving them somewhere to stay for one night at a time, and a chance to sort out their longer term accommodation needs without being at risk in the short term.
"We need volunteers who are good with young people, who can be welcoming and flexible, and are willing to help prevent youth homelessness."
Training courses for volunteers will be this autumn. Anyone wanting to find out more is asked to contact Carol Robinson on 0870 2406921.
