With the season rapidly drawing to a close, the following summarises the current positions in the North East cricket leagues:

Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League

In the Premier Division Guisborough, who have lost three games, are just one point ahead of Saltburn going into tomorrow's last programme of the season.

Guisborough meet bottom-of-the-table Thornaby at Fountains Garth while Saltburn have home advantage over neighbours Marske. Thornaby will be relegated if the team winning the championship accepts promotion and their facilities meet the criteria.

Mathematically, four teams could win the Division One title but realistically it looks as if either Wolviston or Great Ayton will end in pole position.

Wolviston are four points better off than Great Ayton, the pair having played the same number of games. Billingham Synthonia are third, eight points behind Wolviston but having fulfilled one more fixture than the two sides above them.

Seaton Carew meanwhile, are 31 points adrift of Wolviston but have a game in hand on the leading trio worth up to 20 points. At the bottom, Middlesbrough are 23 points behind Bedale and Stokesley, the the three sides all having played 24 of their 26 games.

Foster's ECB North East Regional Premier League

Champions: South Northumberland

Federation Special Durham

Senior League

Champions: Horden

Durham Coast League

Champions: Murton

The Readers Durham County League

Four sides: Evenwood, Willington, Kimblesworth and Tudhoe will tomorrow fight it out for the championship. Evenwood have a five-point lead over Willington while Kimblesworth and Tudhoe are ten points behind the leaders.

Roseberry Group North-East

Durham League

In Division One East Rainton are champions. Littletown and Coxhoe are relegated. Belmont are champions of Division Two.

Bass North Cleveland League

Division One champions: Loftus

Division Two champions: Loftus B

Langbaurgh League

With three games to play just eight points separate the four leading clubs. Kirby Sigston are two points ahead of Broughton and Kirby while East Harlsey are six points behind the leaders and Maltby eight points adrift. There are 12 points at stake in the three remaining fixtures.

Oxbridge Darlington and

District League

In Division A Middleton St George will be declared champions if they win tomorrow but they could still be pipped at the post by Rockliffe Park.

One of three sides, Witton-le-Wear, Raby Castle or Aldbrough St John will be relegated. Normally, two would go down but as Rockliffe Park have won promotion from Division B and they already have a side in Division A, only one club will switch Divisions. Catterick Village, who are in a contest with Rockliffe Park for Divison B title, will be promoted.

Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League

In Division One Lanchester are 51 points ahead of Tynedale at the top of the table but await the outcome of an appeal into a decision by the management committee to dock them 20 points. If the appeal is lost, then Lanchester, with two games to play, would be 31 points in front of Tynedale with 40 points still up for grabs.

There could be another twist in the race for the championship since Newcastle City have lodged an appeal against the decision to impose a 10-points penalty on them earlier in the season.

If their appeal is upheld, they would be on equal points with Tynedale and therefore still in with a chance of winning the title.

Backworth and Ryton are relegated.

In Division A2 four teams are still in with a chance of promotion. Leaders Whickham are six points ahead of Benwell and Walbottle but Morpeth are just eight points adrift of second place and Consett also have a chance of clinching one of the two promotion places although they are regarded as the outsiders.
