BEEHIVE won the first cup match of the season last Sunday when they knocked Binchester Social Club out of the First Division Cup at the first hurdle.

Beehive were leading comfortably 4-1 with just 10 minutes to go thanks to four goals by prolific striker Kenny Melvin.

But Binchester front man Kevin Featherstone netted two to complete his hat-trick and an almost full recovery for the home side, although Beehive managed to hold out to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Meanwhile, Tudhoe United recorded their second win of the season with a narrow, 2-1 victory over Green Tree, Billy McLacklin and Christian Schofield getting their goals.

Meanwhile, title hopefuls Old Shildon comfortably beat Lakeside 6-1. Chris Smith had given Lakeside a first half lead, but goals by Paul Wilson (2), Thomas Louden (2), James Hedley and Ian Maddison bagged the points for Old Shildon.

Thorns won their fourth game of the campaign with a convincing, 9-1 win over Browney. Andrew Richardson (3), Steven Smith (2), Michael Oliver, Steven Richardson, Martin Longthorne and Anthony Stewart scored the goals.

In Division Two, Hunwick Joiners went to the top of the table on goal difference after beating Boot & Shoe 7-0.
