SCORES of local groups have been having their say about a proposed £1m super-surgery for Darlington.

Hannah Henderson, who has been leading the public consultation process, said a host of ideas had been put forward for the primary care centre being built in King Street.

These ranged from a cafe and immunisation drop-in centre to a back pain clinic, needle exchange and clinics for ethnic and traveling communities.

Darlington Primary Care Trust exchanged contracts on the centre last month and expects to move in to the premises next year.

The three-storey building will house 150 people.

Facilities will include a walk-in centre and a specialist minor surgery unit, which will offer treatment for skin conditions and reduce hospital waiting lists.

Stage two of the consultation will begin soon, comprising a leaflet, poster and publicity campaign. All the views will be collated and a report prepared.

Trust director of primary care, Carole Harder, said: "There are lots of potential services so the rooms must be as flexible as possible."
