A VOLUNTEER group is celebrating being honoured with a Queen's Golden Jubilee Award.

The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Lord Crathorne, presented Stokesley's Community Care Association (CCA) with the award at a lunchtime reception on Tuesday.

The CCA saw off competition from almost 100 other individuals and groups who volunteer their time to help others, and became one of only four to be presented with the certificate and crystal trophy.

Sue Simpson, of the CCA, said the group was nominated by Hutton Rudby Parish Council and was thrilled to have been successful.

She said: "This reinforces the fact that the services we provide are worthwhile and valuable to the members of our community.

"A lot of time and effort is put in by the volunteers and I know that they get equal amounts of satisfaction from their work.

"It is nice that their high quality of work has been recognised."

The CAA provides a number of services to older and less able people in the Stokesley area, including a voluntary minibus and car service, a lunch club and dance classes.

Lord Crathorne congratulated their success and said he was impressed by the high standard of work and commitment within the group.

The CAA is looking for more volunteers. For more information about the group, call (01642) 710085.
