A Sedgefield soldier has won the trophy for being best marksman in his intake after completing phase one of his training.
The family of Private John Maslin travelled to Winchester to watch his passing out parade at the Army Training Regiment.
Pte Maslin's father, also called John, lives in Sedgefield and is self-employed. Before joining the Army, Pte Maslin attended Sedgefield County Primary School. His interests include shooting and keeping fit.
During his time in phase one training, Pte Maslin took part in a sponsored triathlon.
The fundraising effort required his troop to cycle, row and swim the equivalent distance from Dover to Calais and back. The exercise raised £530 for the Army Benevolent Fund.
Pte Maslin, 20, has just completed his basic training.
After receiving his prize from the inspecting officer, he said: "I am extremely proud of my progress at ATR Winchester."
Pte Maslin now goes to Chichester to complete phase two of his training, which will include courses in investigation of civilian and military criminal and non-criminal offences.
He will then join the Royal Military Police of the Adjutant General's Corps.
