Primary school children across Stockton will put their best foot forward next week.
They will take part in the International Walk to School Day, on Wednesday.
Last year, 4,000 pupils from Stockton signed the pledge to walk, backed by Middlesbrough Football Club.
George Callaghan, Stockton Borough Council's school travel plan champion, said: "This year, Stockton council's road safety team have teamed up with Tees Forest to plant a hectare of woodland.
"By walking to school, you can leave the car at home and get fitter and healthier and by planting trees we can help to reduce the impact we have on the global environment."
