Wilton 1st celebrated victory in their first league encounter of the season, showing newly promoted Richmond that fist division hockey is tough.

The Teessiders surged forward from the whistle and Rob Walker hit the net from their first attack. Wilton robbed the ball immediately from the re-start and threaded the ball neatly into the scoring circle for Brewer to fire home for what must be one of the fastest 2-0 scorelines on record in little over two minutes. A stunned Richmond lifted their game in panic and did well to prevent more chances, gaining good possession and catching Wilton's defence square top grab one back. Wilton rocked and needed to defend man of the match Danny Morgan leading the way with some excellent tackling, two shots being cleared off the line before the halftime whistle.

Richmond's need to attack gave the Wilton forwards the space they relish and the goals began to flow. New acquisition Dom Binks took the pressure off neatly finishing a short corner then cracking another, Walker grabbed his second, before Richmond captain Tony Potter pushed forward giving the scoreline slight consolation before flying winger Scott Morton finished to give Wilton a fine 2-0 victory.

For newly promoted Wilton 3rds, the trip to Tynemouth was not so fruitful, after a bright opening 20 minutes Wilton looked as if they could have taken the lead on several occasions, the front pairing of Michael Barclay and Phillip Cook looked sharp but were unable to capitalise on the early pressure. Tyne's experience shone through and as the Wilton youngsters began to get frustrated at their inability to take their chances, Tyne's pacey front man left Wilton keeper Peter Lawson bewildered as he nipped beyond the defence to tap home after an initial save from the unlucky shot stopper, Tynemouth continue to pile on the pressure and managed to add a second just before half time.

In the second period Wilton came out with renewed hope, they started passing the ball around and making Tyne work hard helped by an impressive midfield display by man of the match Nigel Watson, up-step Wilton defender Paul Jackson whose comical error changed the balance of the game, he simply stood on a timid goal bound shot conceding a penalty stroke, Tyne were lucky to increase their lead however, goalkeeper Lawson looked to have saved the penalty but the ball bounced awkwardly off his pads and into the back of the net via the woodwork. Wilton's never got back in the game and were unable to prevent a superb fourth by Tynemouth. Final score 4-0.
