St Mary's Coll OB 1 Woodman's A 1

(St. Mary's won 3-2 on penalties)

St. Mary's College needed a penalty shoot before they made it through to the second round of the Arthur Reed Shield. Chances went begging for both sides, but they failed to produce a goal in the opening forty five minutes. Five minutes into the second period, the College took the lead when Dave Aspery's drive into the six yard area was deflected into the net but the Woodman's levelled with just ten minutes remaining to send the tie into extra time. Both sides went all out for the crucial second goal but thirty minutes of extra time failed to separate the sides. Penalty conversions from Paul Pearson, Tim Oloman and Paul Mellon were enough to see the College through while the Woodman's only managed to score with two of their efforts.
