A GRANT of £300,000 has been awarded to revitalise a coastal town.
The money, for Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, has come from the regional development agency One NorthEast. It will be spent by Hartlepool Borough Council to improve commercial prem-ises and give the seafront a facelift.
The money will be added to £250,000 already earmarked by the council for road safety measures and the creation of a playground in Seaton Park.
Councillor Michael Turner, a member of the Seaton Car-ew renewal advisory group, said the measures formed part of the Seaton Carew tourism strategy.
He said: "The money is a tremendous boost for Seaton. This will hopefully help Seaton realise its huge potential. I am particularly pleased that improvements to the park will go ahead, because this is a facility which is used by local residents as well as visitors."
Councillor Cath Hill, also a member of the advisory group, said: "Additional funding is vital to rejuvenate Seaton Carew and the £300,000 from One NorthEast will help to significantly improve the appearance of commercial buildings in Seaton Carew."
