On Saturday at Gateshead Leisure Centre The Badminton Association Of England held their under-17 tournament for the region and although only four Durham County players entered, all of them ended up with a medal.

In the main doubles event Sunderland's Adam Coulson teamed up with Alastair MacCorkindale of Lancashire and won a bronze after reaching the semi finals before being beaten by the favourites Luke Brudenell (Yorks) and Richard Pulford (Notts).

In the Alternate doubles Perry Cook of Sunderland and Scott Carnell reached the final against Naser Khan and Richard Shipman. The Durham pair were too strong for the Notts pair and won 15.8, 15.4. to take gold.

Durham's only girl to enter was Charlotte Heads of Wynyard who began this season as a level four player after serious injury last season.

Charlotte overcame two Yorkshire and two Northumberland girls to take a well deserved gold.
