YOUNG people are learning all about survival after the launch of a club in Shildon.

The Pilgrim Club meets every Thursday at Sunnydale Leisure Centre and gives young people the chance to develop life skills using nature. The club was set up by Councillor John Cutting to try to give young people something different to take part in.

He said: "There is not a lot for young people to do and they often say they are not interested in youth clubs and want something different. This is something different."

Funding and sponsorship for the club has come from UK Coal which has presented the youths with certificates. Help has also come from the High Force Centre. The group is preparing for a weekend away where they will be able to try some of the survival skills they have learned. These include finding their way using the stars and making a raft.
