The Harriers began their 2003 cross-country campaign in fine style by finishing second senior men's team at the Durham Pine Furniture Express North Eastern XC Harrier League at Meadowfield Sports Centre.

First counter for the club was Elliott Makin who finished 18th from the slow pack under the handicap system in a time of 37.30. Top veteran Rob Hand running from the fast pack had a great run finishing 21st from a five minute handicap with an actual time of 32.35 which was the third fastest time of the day.

Other scores for the team were: Geoff Watson (29, 38.12), Steve Marshall (31, 38.18), Ted Tait (41, 38.56) and Elwyn Baldwin (82, 40.23). (Six runners to count). Other Harriers to finish were Stephen Nesbitt (93, 38.19), Geoff Davies (98, 41.01), Gary Shield (103, 41.17), Ian Hesler (107, 41.26), Francis Turner (111, 41.34), Malcolm Heslop (124, 41.54), Peter Clark (126, 41.56), Alan Rowell (157, 40.27), Ian Marshall (160, 43.06), Gary Coulter (176, 43.37), Bob Hewitson (182, 43.42), Graeme Armstrong (204, 44.56), Paul Donaehy (222, 45,56), Mike Wyngard (238, 48.07).

In the Senior Women's race the Harriers were led by veteran Caroline Ratcliffe (8, 22,24), with new veteran Debbie Hales (15, 23.45), and veteran Susan Shield (36, 27,35). the team finished fifth.

Similarly the Under-15 girls team had three runners to score led by Kate Rose (15, 15.34), closely followed by Kirsty Walker (16, 15.41), with Briony Rose (24, 17.15). The team finished fourth.

Michael Crawley had a great run in the Under 17 boys race finishing fifth in a good time of 18.12 while Daniel Garbutt (U15 boys) finished well from the fast pack in a time of 13.50 for 31st position with Chris Walker having his first league run on the U13 boys finishing 33rd in 16.15.
